NYC half.. ONE step closer to NYC full!

let me just start out by saying.. the NYC half is by far my FAVORITE half so far! i loved EVERYTHING; from the course, to the crowd support, to the bling!!

but lets not get ahead of ourselves! my husband && i got a hotel room for the night so i would be able to go to the expo the day before to get my packet && we wouldnt have to go back && forth. we had time saturday morning so i packed us up && ran two miles just to shake out my legs. after a nice relaxing shower we packed up the car && hit the road!

once we got to NYC we put our bags at the hotel && took the {quite long} walk to the expo! NYC is never boring so we had a great time just walking along && chatting about the different things we saw. once at the expo i wasnt sure what to expect but i loved how it was set up. everyone was really nice && helpful but my FAVORITE part was the walls they had set up that we could write on in sharpies. i of course couldnt pass that up && left my mark on the NYC half!

once we left the expo i was already pretty tired && achy but was too stubborn to take the subway or a cab {which i later regretted}! we ended up having a really nice dinner at olive garden {had to get those carbs in}! then we made the LONG trek back to the hotel && on the way we spotted a place ive been DYING to go to.. holey cream!!

basically if you are in NYC && you love donuts && ice cream, you HAVE TO go!! first you get a donut && you pick which frosting you want. then they dip it in the frosting && you get to choose a topping for it. between the cut donut they put the scoops of ice cream of your choice. A-MAZING!!

when checking into our hotel {the empire hotel which i absolutely LOVED} i was delighted to learn we were upgraded to a king suite! SCORE! for a NYC hotel, the room was rather big && the best part, it was right near the start line!

i was a little afraid saturday night because i was having terrible back pain {which i assume was from all the walking}. luckily i brought my heating pad in case of a fibro flare so i laid on that, turned on my sound machine && got some sleep! that bed was like sleeping on a CLOUD! i did not want to get up && even hit snooze THREE times!

when packing i brought extra clothes like gloves && a long sleeved shirt in case. boy am i glad i did because it was maybe 30 degrees that morning when i walked out of the hotel. i had shorts on with my compression socks && had lots of people say "im cold just lookin at ya." i happen to run better in cooler weather so i was happy about it {&& actually ended up ditching my gloves around mile 6}!

michael walked with me to the park entrance where security was all set up, so he headed towards times square && i headed into the park after passing through security. i waited in line to use the bathroom && then made my way to my corral. i actually ended up being the first one in my corral so i jogged back && forth to warm up/keep warm!

nerves started to kick in as the corrals started moving forward. i was just very unsure of the course ahead && considering the pain i had the night before i was worried. i tried to push that out of my mind by putting on my music && getting myself in "race mode." as i made my way to the start, my heart was beating so fast! this time from excitement!

almost the whole first half of the race was in central park {&& if you know anything about central park, HILLS}! i conquered them pretty well all things considered && had a really good pace going. once we got out of the park && headed toward times square i was SUPER excited because i knew there would be more of a crowd && in that crowd would be michael && jenny!

i looked for them while trying to pay attention to what i was doing. i was holding a real good pace by the time i saw them around mile 7! the miles to come were still fairly even paced && i loved the crowd support all along the way. reading their signs always makes me smile. i was so sure i was on point for a sub 2 half so i picked my pace up in the last two miles. when we got into the tunnel everyone started yelling && whistling because we knew we were near the end. i saw my sister && hubby again, then booked it to the finish! i ended up finishing 2:02, which obviously wasnt a sub 2 hour but i was still SUPER proud of myself considering the hills && the pain ive been going through with my fibro.

once i finished && got my medal my body felt just how cold it really was so i was thankful for the heat sheet! i met up with jenny && michael && we got on the subway. i always love when people strike up conversations about running so when a guy from england asked me about the half i enjoyed telling him about it. he was telling me about races he ran in england && he was wicked fast! it is my intention to run all six worlds so i will be running london some day, i hope!

once we got back to the hotel i showered && we headed back to NJ. i ALWAYS love trips to the city && i cannot wait to run the NYC marathon in november! i have many races between now && then so stay tuned! plus i have another race recap to come -- rock n roll raleigh. two words: HOLY HILLS!! till next time..

xoxo
